Natural gas extracted from oil wells is cooled to minus 162 degrees Celsius to form a liquid state known as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). It reduces its volume, making it more suitable for transportation by LNG carriers to import countries. Once imported to Korea, this LNG is stored at the Korea Gas Corporation's receiving bases in Incheon, Pyeongtaek, and Tongyeong.
The Korea Gas Corporation then converts the stored LNG back into a gaseous state and transports it through a nationwide natural gas pipeline network to various city gas companies.
These city gas companies deliver the natural gas they receive from the Korea Gas Corporation to their customers through their own pipeline network. In some areas, where a natural gas supply pipeline is not available, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or LNG, transported by vehicles, is supplied as city gas.

In 1847, destiny led Young to stumble upon a natural petroleum seepage in the depths of the Riddings colliery at Alfreton, Derbyshire. Inspired by the possibilities, he set out on a quest to refine this crude oil, unearthing a light, ethereal liquid perfect for illuminating lamps and a denser oil that embraced the role of lubricating machinery.
As the new oils tasted success, an unforeseen challenge loomed. The supply of oil from the coal mine started to dwindle, eventually depleting in 1851. Ever the curious mind, Young observed the oil seeping from the sandstone roof of the coal mine, sparking a revelation that would transform the course of history.
His inquisitive mind theorized that the oil's origin lay in the interaction of heat with the coal seam, birthing the idea of producing it artificially. Embarking on a quest to bring his theory to life, Young delved into a myriad of experiments, and his perseverance bore fruit. A significant milestone arrived on 17th October 1850, when Young's patent showcased the revolutionary production of oils and solid paraffin wax from coal. In a historic partnership, Young joined forces with Edward William Binney, co-founding E.W. Binney & Co. in Bathgate, West Lothian, and E. Meldrum & Co. in Glasgow.
The world witnessed the birth of the first truly commercial oil-works and oil refinery, fueled by oil extracted from locally mined torbanite, shale, and bituminous coal.
